8. Operation
You can increase the surface quality and
reduce the load on the planing machine by
performing several passes with smaller cut-
ting depths.
For the first planing pass you should select a
small cutting depth so that any unevenness in
the workpiece does not result in the maximum
cutting depth being exceeded (see "Technical
data") and in the workpiece being blocked.
8.1 On/Off switch (Fig. 1/Item 1)
To turn the machine on, press the green but-
ton „I". Wait for the planing knives to reach
their maximum speed of rotation before you
begin to plane.
To turn the machine off again, press the red
button „0".
Important! The planing machine can only be
switched on if the chip extractor (5) is fi tted to the
machine and the relevant safety switch is activa-
ted.
Attach the chip extractor (5) for surfacing on
the thicknessing table (20). (See 7.1.1)
Attach the chip extractor (5) for thicknessing
on the planing table (14). (See 7.2.1)
The motor of this machine is protected against
overload by an overload switch (35). If the rated
current is exceeded, the overload switch (35) will
shut down the machine.
Let the machine cool down for several minu-
tes.
Press the overload switch (35).
Press the green button „I" to switch on the
machine.

8.2 General instructions for surfacing

Warning! The workpiece must always be gui-
ded downwards with sufficient counterpressu-
re to the knife shaft (23), otherwise there is an
increased risk of kickback.
The surfacing function of the machine enab-
les turning an uneven workpiece surface into
an even one. To achieve the best possible
working result, exert the counterpressure
downwards on the workpiece over the planing
table (14) at the same point if possible.
Never feed the workpiece with your hand
directly above the knife shaft (23). Even when
using the pushing aids, change the grip befo-
re the hand is over the knife shaft (23).

Wherever possible use the supplied pushing
aids (push block (2), push stick (3)).
Important! The push block (2) should prima-
rily be used to press the workpiece down on
the planing table (14).
Important! The push stick (3) should primari-
ly be used to guide the workpiece on the feed
table (13) into the knife shaft.
If a pushing aid cannot be used, place your
hands flat on the workpiece with your fingers
closed and push the workpiece forward
evenly.
Before starting surfacing mode, remove the
hand crank (4) from the spindle (55).
Use the parallel stop (6) as a guide surface.
During surfacing, one side of the workpiece is
in contact with parallel stop (6).
Warning! The flatter the angle (>0°) is set on
the parallel stop (6), the more dangerous and
demanding it is to guide the workpiece.
Before cutting, think about how and with
which pushing aids you want to guide the
workpiece. Proceed with caution and always
be aware of the danger posed by the knife
shaft (23).

8.3 Surfacing mode (Figure 11/12)

Assemble and fit the chip extractor (5) on the
thicknessing table (20) as shown in under
7.1.1.
Set the surfacing depth, the angle on the pa-
rallel stop (6) and the planing knife cover (12)
as described in 7.1.2, 7.1.3, 7.1.4 depending
on the workpiece.
The operator's working position is to the side
of the feed table (13) and planing table (14)
and must not be on the feed side of the work-
piece.
Press the green button "I" to switch on the
planing machine.
Place the workpiece you wish to plane on the
feed table (13).
Use the push block (2) to press the front end
of the workpiece downwards. Wherever possi-
ble hold the push stick (3) with the other hand
and use it to push the workpiece towards the
planing table (14).
Warning! At the end of the workpiece the kni-
fe shaft is exposed, so always use the push
stick (3) for feeding purposes.
Repeat the process until the surface is suffici-
ently even to be processed with the thicknes-
sing function.
