Intended use
The KESSEL backwater lifting station is designed for pumping faecal-free or faecal wastewater. The assemblies for the
pumps, the level measurement and the motor-driven backwater flap or two mechanical hinged flaps are installed in the drain
body.
In normal operation, the wastewater passes through the backwater lifting station to the wastewater sewer without backflow.
If the wastewater from the sewer system backs up into the backwater lifting station, the backwater is detected by an optical
probe (backwater flap). The motor-driven backwater flap closes. The wastewater from the building then collects in the drain
body of the backwater lifting station. The two hinged flaps close mechanically in the SWA version.
The switching signals of the level measurement in the tank are processed electronically in the control unit. An optical probe
(pump) can be used as a level detection option for the immersion pipe alarm. Once the relevant level has been reached,
pumping away via the drain body of the backwater lifting station is activated, against the backwater.
In the event of a power outage, the functional reliability of the motor-driven backwater flap can be guaranteed for approx.
2 hours. After this period, the backwater flap is closed to protect the building. The pumping of wastewater remains inactive
during a power outage.

Product description
The system is the alternative to a sewage lifting station for faecal-free and faecal wastewater.
Drainage during the backwater phase takes place via a pressure pipe that can be connected above the backwater level
including a backflow preventer and shut-off valve for the pressure pipe.
The system does has a closure system for the polymer drainage pipe for safe closure of the drainage pipe in the event of
backwater. It consists of a hinged flap including an emergency closure, for manual locking if required, and an electrically
powered closure mechanism including a probe protected against wire breakage for the detection of backwater.
