OPERATING PROCEDURE
Installing this kit provides the machine with the optical character recognition (OCR)
function. On the screen that is displayed by tapping the [File Format] key, you
can specify the file format and language (OCR language) in which the characters
should be recognised.
As an example, the following describes the procedure used to specify the format
and OCR language from e-mail transmitted to send a facsimile image.
A similar screen is displayed when you use other functions such as Address Book,
Document Filing, and Save in External Memory Devices. Carry out the procedure
according to the screen that is actually displayed.
Tap the [File Format] key.

Tap the desired compression mode key or tap the desired
compression ratio key.
The compression ratio cannot be set in some screens such as the [B/W] tab.
Go to step 7.

Tap the [Change] button in "OCR Setting".
Some screens, such as the Format screen that is displayed when a contact is
registered in an address book, do not contain "OCR Setting". Go to step 10.
Select the OCR language.
When the [Detect Original Direction] checkbox is set to
rotated as necessary in 90-degree increments to the correct text orientation
that is detected. Note that this correction process may take some time
depending on the scanned document.

The file format and OCR language have been set.
Tap the [Start] key to start scanning of the document.
The "Processing" message is displayed on the job status screen when the
OCR process is being executed.
When scanning to an external memory device, a window appears showing
the progress of the scan.
