APPENDIX H, USING THE BCD LABEL SELECTION
BCD-input
This is input X07. The BCD code that's generated by the host machine must be applied to this connector. For
the schematics of connector X07 see appendix A.
Use a shielded cable that is not longer than 30 meters. Make sure the cable is clear from "noisy" cables and
other noise generating equipment.
Using the BCD input, it's possible to select from 99 different labels. The inputs A1, A2, A4 and A8 are used
to make up the BCD code for the single units and B1, B2, B4 and B8 are used to make up the decades. BCD
code `00` is prohibited.
Product detect
If the Product Detect input X08 is activated, the currently active BCD code on the input X07 will be stored in
the print list. It is very important that the Product Detect input is activated by the host or the actual product,
when the BCD code indicating which label needs to be printed on that product, is valid. The Product Detect
input has the same configuration as the Print Request input. See appendix B to determine how to connect a
sensor or switch to X08.
Print request
X04 (Photocell) or X03 (I/O). If the actual BCD label has to be printed, a print request can be applied to one of
these ports. Use either the print request input on X04 OR on X03, but not both. The print request can be
generated by the host or by e.g. a photocell which detects the product at the correct moment (when a valid
BCD code is present).
How it should work.
After making the connections to the TsC20, it's time to test the setup.
1. The host machine outputs the BCD code.
2. A product detect is generated. This can be generated by a photocell or by the host machine. When a
product detect is generated the BCD code from step 1 will be stored in the print list.
3. Print request will activate the print head to print the label set by the BCD code
Troubleshooter
We will give an enumeration of the possible errors you can encounter, related specially to BCD mode.
Error 96 - File not found
This error occurs if a BCD code in the list does not exist in a label name. This means the label is missing or a
wrong name is used and this error pops up to notify the the operator. The code is stored in the printlist. The
popup also shows which BCD code caused the error. If more than one BCD codes are not found, only the
first BCD code is displayed on screen. The process doesn't stop on this message. So, the next BCD code in the
list will be handled by the system. Also new BCD codes which are sent by the host will be received and
stored in the printlist.
