Variables in labels

From software version V1.0-19032018a onwards, the TsC20 now supports the use of variables. Variables in
the software here are actually items that require to be defined and given a name. Defining variables is the
same as creating an item. The difference is that the item will not be placed on the canvas but is stored inside
the label and can be referenced using a name that the user can assign to the variable.
The variable is therefore actually a predefined item which is given a name. The variables can be used for:
Creating a composite Text item consisting of one or more variables,
Creating a composite barcode item consisting of one or more variables. Currently the following
barcodes support variables:
o
QR-code,
o
GS1-128,
o
Code 128 and
o
Data Matrix
Variables can be defined for the following items:
o
Text,
o
Date,
o
Time,
o
Counter (also operator input is supported),
o
ID (Printer ID, Customer ID and Line ID) and
o
Shift Code
Date, time, counter and shift code are so-called autocodes, meaning they are updated after a certain event.
Being able to create a composite text or barcode item therefore means that this composite item is also
updated if such a variable is used. A few examples:
A barcode that contains a date variable will be updated when the date changes
A barcode is updated after each print when a counter variable is included in the barcode data
Etc etc
Variables are not stored globally in the controller, but locally inside the label file.

Adding / defining variables to the label

The suggested workflow is to think about how a label needs to be composed:
Which items are fixed text items, auto codes or graphics in the label,
How many composite items are required,
What types of composite items are required (composite text and / or barcode(s))
What kind of information should be present in the composite item
Once the requirements for the label have been defined, go to the controller and create it (Later in 2018, we will also
introduce Kortho Control Center, a Windows software package that will also allow you to create and manage
labels on a Windows 10 PC / laptop / tablet for each X-series printer in a network)
