3. Safety
All Dutch ID e-bikes are designed and manufactured to the highest quality and safety standards.
Nevertheless, operating, installation and maintenance faults can lead to hazardous situations.
Read this manual in full before use and follow the instructions on the warning labels on the
e-bike and in this manual at all times. Failure to follow the safety directions and instructions can
lead to electric shocks, fire and/or serious injuries.
Retain all safety directions and instructions for future reference.
3.1. General use
WARNING
6
• Observe the locally applicable (cycle) traffic rules at all times, including the rules for bike
lighting.
• Consult the local regulations for the registration and use of e-bikes on public roads.
• Always turn on the bike lighting when using the e-bike in the dark. Cycling in the dark without
lighting is very dangerous, due to the poor visibility of the road surface and poor visibility for
other road users.
• Ensure that your front light is not angled at such a height that it shines directly into the eyes
of oncoming road users. This can dazzle them, which may lead to hazardous situations or
accidents.
• Only configure the on-board computer when you are stationary in a safe place. Keep your
eyes on the road and surroundings at all times while cycling.
• Do not wear loose belts, scarves, skirts or other long clothing that may become entangled in
the various parts of the e-bike.
• Many of the moving parts of the e-bike are subject to wear. Have the bike checked annually
by a qualified e-bike specialist to keep the bike in a good and safe condition and to maximise
the lifespan of the e-bike.
• With the pedal assist feature of the e-bike, you can easily reach speeds of up to 25 km/h.
Wear a helmet while cycling to prevent head injuries in the event of an accident.
• After cycling, do not touch the disc brakes of the e-bike with your hands or legs without
protection. Friction when applying the brakes can cause the brake discs to reach very high
temperatures.
• The brake discs have sharp edges. To prevent cuts, do not touch the brake discs without
protection.
• Only use original spare parts when replacing parts of the bike. Other part brands may not
operate in the same way or be of the same quality, which may adversely affect the safety of
the e-bike.
• Do not bring the rim magnet of the smart system, found on the rear rim of the bicycle, close
to (>30 cm) implants or other medical devices, e.g. pacemaker or insulin pump. Keep the rim
magnet away from magnetic data carriers and magnetically sensitive equipment. The magnetic
field produced by the magnet may interfere with the function of implants and medical devices.
